OUR STORY

Our story is like so many immigrant stories in Toronto — except ours comes with a kitchen full of memories. When our parents left Kolkata, India, for Toronto, they dreamed of a better life for their children. In 1986, they found a tiny 15-seat restaurant in old Chinatown and, with courage and pride, introduced Toronto to its very first taste of Hakka Indian cuisine.

The first dish they served was chili chicken — a favorite from their childhood, full of heat, love, and heritage. Then came Manchurian chicken, their own creation for locals curious but cautious of foreign flavours. They could never have imagined that these humble recipes would shape a community and become part of Toronto’s food story.

For over 40 years, Yueh Tung has been more than a restaurant — it’s been a home where generations have gathered, celebrated, and shared meals that connect us all. Seeing families grow around our tables has been the greatest honor of our lives.

Now, we — the next generation — have returned to carry on what our parents began. Through food, we continue their legacy of love, resilience, and multicultural storytelling.

Welcome to our family table. Tso yi ha, set fan. Sit a while, eat with us.
